Let's Talk About Hair Ba-by!!

Hey Everyone,

So, today I want to discuss a topic that I have grown to love over the past few years. HAIR!! I get a lot of questions about my hair care routine, how I grow and manage it, and the products that I use.

Over the past couple of years I've invested a ton of time and money into finding products that work for my hair type. Some products worked, a lot of them didn't :_(. But that's the beauty of it. I like to try different techniques and ultimately come up with a regimen that fits me. So I did :).

I'm going to share some tips that I have found over time that has proven to work on my, and my daughter's hair. Since March of this year, my hair has grown about 3-4 inches and it is much more full and healthier.

So here is what I do::

Once a month I make sure to do a protein treatment with a basic conditioner and an egg. I mix the two, comb it through my hair, and cover it with a plastic cap for an hour. NO HEAT!! Rinse, then shampoo and deep condition. This prevents breakage and adds moisture to your hair.

On days that I regularly wash my hair, I make sure to pre-shampoo it. This is extremely important because most shampoos contains chemicals that strips the hair of moisture. It is therefore necessary to prep the hair for washing. You do not have it do this after a protein treatment.

Pre-Shampoo Solution (Amount depends on length and fullness of your hair)

Raw Honey (Antioxidant and antibacterial properties for hair growth)
Pure, Virgin Coconut Oil (A fatty acid which nourishes and moisturizes)
Grapeseed Oil (Relieves dandruff, promotes growth, and nourishes)
Jamaican Black Castor Oil (Smells kinda bad, but great for getting full, thick hair)
A bit of Argan Oil (Shines and moisturizes)
Your favorite conditioner
you do not have to run and get all these products. if you have them already fine, if not then variations will do.

I mix all of these in a bowl and apply evenly through my hair. I leave it on with a plastic cap for 30 minutes. After rinsing, I shampoo my hair as usual. Listen guys. When shampooing, you are NOT supposed to lather the soap throughout your hair. Shampoo is used to clean your SCALP. Please remember this and be aware when using it. Conditioner is for your HAIR, not the scalp. It will actually clog your pores and prohibit correct hair growth.

I always deep condition my hair after a shampoo. Conditioning is important for preventing breakage and improving manageability. Again I use my conditioner and a little bit of each oil to give it more pizazz. Depending on how much time I have, I leave it on for 20 minutes to an hour. It's up to you. If you have thicker hair, you may want to aim toward the 30 minute mark at least.

After workouts, (not each and every one but most), I conditioner wash my hair. Using conditioner only, I completely wet my hair and rinse conditioner through to grab the salt build up from post workout sweat. Salt breaks down the hair so it's good to soak it up from time to time.

Ok. I know this is a lot of information but these are just some of the basics. I hope you enjoy and are able to implement these tips to get on the right path to more healthy, beautiful hair.

Welcome Guys & Gals!!

Be Duchess was created to give women, and men, advice on everything from health and beauty, to skin care products, their ingredients and their use, to old and new regimens and everything in between. My addiction to everything beautiful came about around 2009 and I've become overly obsessed since.

My journey to a full head of non-relaxed hair came with a closet full of hair care products because I'm sort of a trial and error kinda gal. Some were good and some were not... so... great. But in the end I found what works for my hair type. The path to clear, fresh skin leaves many of us pulling our hair out trying to find what's right and what's not. "Do I use toner?" "Which moisturizer is best?" "I have oily skin. No, Wait! Dry skin... I think." We have all been there and I am here to try to guide you all in the right direction to find what is best for YOU. Obtaining a smooth and glowing body is important too, right! Don't worry, I have tips for that as well.

From time to time, we'll discuss health regimens and various foods that promote positive results in our quest for Being a more fabulous Being. We all should be confident in channeling our inner royalty. It's there! I know and so do you. Be patient, be proactive, and let's "Be Duchess"!!
